The regional Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is designed to enhance mobility on arterial roadways in Seminole County by incorporating the latest technological advancements.
The Traffic Management Center (TMC) is located in Traffic Engineer’s building off US 17/92 in Sanford. The TMC includes a 20' wide by 5' high state-of-the-art display wall and two work stations. The TMC is manned by one full-time operator, Monday-Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and for emergencies as needed.
There currently are twenty-nine (29) Variable Message Signs installed at the interchange areas with Interstate 4, at the intersections of US 17/92 with SR 436, SR 434 and Airport Blvd., and at the intersection of SR 436 with SR434. These signs convey real-time traffic information to motorists and can provide detour routing for incidents on Interstate 4 as well as Amber Alerts and construction information.
Variable Message Sign (VMS)
Traffic Engineering currently has deployed over 140 Bluetooth readers across the County to calculate real-time travel times on major arterials. Besides providing this information on our VMSs for travelers, our TMC staff uses this information to identify incidents on the roadways and adjust signal timings as necessary.
