Lake Jesup Basin Study
CIP No. 02207094-2 (East County Basins Group C)
BCC Districts 1, 2 and 5
Project Overview
Seminole County Public Works Department/Watershed Management Division has initiated the development of a Watershed Management Plan (Drainage Basin Study) for the Lake Jesup Drainage Basin (CIP02207094-2, Group C), also known as East Basins Group C. The plans are being developed by an engineering consulting team hired by the County.
The Lake Jesup basin encompasses approximately 63 square miles (~40,000 acres) in eastern Seminole County. Lake Jesup, Lake Minnie, Lake Mary, Lake Ada, Hidden Lake, Lake Jennie, Silver Lake, Golden Lake, Sweetwater Creek, Lake Charm, and Salt Creek are some of the major water features within this basin. The Lake Jesup basin ultimately drains into the St. Johns River, just north of SR 46. The basin area includes portions of the cities of Oviedo, Sanford, Lake Mary, and Winter Springs.
The Lake Jesup basin has experienced significant growth since the last studies were completed in the early to mid-2000s. The update will:
- Incorporate developments and infrastructure improvements built since the previous studies
- Identify flood-prone areas within the basins
- Estimate flood impacts to roadways and buildings
- Update the 100-year flood maps
- Evaluate and rank conceptual Capital Improvement Projects that will serve to alleviate flooding and improve water quality
