Interested in demonstrating community pride and making a positive statement for clean, attractive leisure areas? Participate in the Adopt-a-Park Program. Facilitate the monitoring, clean-up and enhancement of parks, natural lands, trails and trail heads maintained by Seminole County. The Adopt-a-Park Program is a one-year commitment with a 3-4 hour per month minimum volunteer time — there aren't any separate Adopt-a-Park cleanup events.

Activities include trash pick-up, weeding and raking playground and landscape areas, sweeping shelters, cleaning picnic tables, mulching trees and shrubs, trail blazing and reporting graffiti or vandalism. Adopters also assist with special projects such as graffiti cover up, painting and light landscaping.

Program Information

  • Find more information in the Adopt-A-Park Program Handbook.
  • Adults and youth can participate. There must be a minimum one adult supervisor for every five children.
  • Monitoring of the park, natural land, trail, or trail head should be done on a regular basis, usually at least once a month.
  • Trash bags will be provided. Seminole County Parks and Recreation will be responsible for disposal of trash-filled bags.
  • A sign will be posted in the adopted park, natural land, trail or trail head crediting the organization/group for their assistance.
  • An adopting organization/group may keep any and all proceeds from any materials with recyclable value that are found and identified as trash.
  • The adopting organization/group commits to a one-year period of adoption. At the end of that year, an organization/group may also opt to renew or change location.

More Resources

Seminole County Parks and Recreation staff work to treat and control at least 32 invasive plant species and at least 5 invasive animal species on Parks, Trails, and Natural Lands properties. For more information, view the Parks and Recreation Invasive Species Management Plan.
landscapes and medians

Seminole County Parks and Recreation maintains over 60 miles of landscaped medians. Our landscapes utilize the Florida-Friendly Landscaping philosophy promoted by UF IFAS Extension Seminole County. We rely on low-to-no irrigation, drought-tolerant materials, and best-management practices within our landscaped streetscapes in order to preserve our resources without sacrificing aesthetics. For more information, contact 407-665-2001.

Seminole County Parks and Recreation staff work cooperatively with the Seminole County Fire Department, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and Florida Forest Service to implement prescribed burns on Natural Lands properties. Prescribed fire mitigates wildfire risk and promotes ecological benefits to the plants and wildlife that have been dependent on the cycle of lightning-ignited fires for thousands of years.

Seminole County Parks and Recreation staff use resource monitoring to ensure that the natural lands of Seminole County are being managed efficiently and effectively. During twice-yearly bioblitzes, staff:

  • Identify plant and animal species with the help of professional and volunteer experts
  • Conduct gopher tortoise burrow surveys
  • Monitor invasive species control effects
  • Monitor public-use impacts
  • Survey habitat restoration effects
  • Provide data to state partners
