Emergency Management

Weather And Emergency Management

Meteorology is deeply intertwined with the emergency management community.  Emergency managers regularly monitor and track weather phenomena.  These events can be the cause of many disastrous events including lightning, high winds, drought, tornadoes and hurricanes. Weather can also affect the way assistance is provided during or after an emergency.

Since severe weather events never make an appointment, preparedness is vital.  Much of meteorology is concerned with forecasting and issuing. Finally, the future poses its own special brand of weather hazards due to the uncertainties and scale of consequent changes in global climate patterns.

The Emergency Operations Center monitors and tracks weather on a regular basis.  These are some of the tools used.
