POLICY

Owner Redemption

Effective May 1, 2015, Seminole County Animal Services (SCAS) will release all impounded animals to their owners in compliance with County Ordinance Section 20.37 (Impounding, disposing of and redeeming animals). Animal owners that are able to provide documentation of current rabies vaccination may redeem their animals during the shelter’s normal business hours. Owned animals that do not have current rabies vaccinations may only be redeemed when the County’s contracted veterinarian is on-duty at the shelter, Monday through Friday from 1:00 – 3:30 pm, and Saturday from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.

Please note that before an animal is redeemed to its owner, additional boarding fees may apply until either the shelter has been provided with documentation of the current rabies vaccination or the animal has been given a rabies vaccination by the County’s contracted vet during the specified times.

On March 8, 2016, microchip implantation was made available to the public, Monday through Friday from 1:00 – 3:30 pm, and Saturday from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm for a $10.00 fee, with the passing of Seminole County Resolution #2016-R-40 by the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).   Click here

Out of County Intakes

Effective September 1, 2014, Seminole County Animal Services (SCAS) will only accept those animals that were found within Seminole County and have been brought to our shelter by Seminole County residents (photo identification is required). While this policy is intended to cover the processing of stray animals received over the counter, it also covers owner-surrendered animals unless those same animals had been adopted from our shelter. This policy does not affect the adoption process, which remains open to the general public.

For the purposes of public safety, it is highly recommended that any person that observes stray animals within Seminole County should avoid contact with same and immediately report the situation to our shelter. It also remains the responsibility of residents of other counties to locate resources for their owned animals within their own municipalities, and to locate other options that may be available to them if they were to travel to Seminole County. Please be sure to contact our shelter at phone #407-665-5201 with any questions regarding this policy.
