Seminole County Animal Services has numerous education programs available for every age group. These include programs that can be given for schools, homeowners associations, church groups, boy and girl scout troops or any other organization in Seminole County interested in hosting a program.
This program is highly recommended for all age groups but is most important for grade school children. Have you ever wondered what you do when approached by a strange dog? Is it ever OK to pet a racoon? What happens if a dog knocks you to the ground? Learn special techniques to protect yourself from being bitten by a dog, cat, or any wildlife animal and what to do if you are the victim of an animal bite.
This program can be tied in with our Bite Prevention Program. Learn how to protect yourself from being bitten or exposed to rabies and what to do in the case of a bite or scratch from a wild animal. Raccoons, bats, foxes, dogs, and cats all pose a risk of being a carrier of rabies. It’s crucial that individuals do their best to stay safe against this virus.
Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a Seminole County Animal Services employee is like? Get answers to questions like how we get our animals, why so many cats are turned in, why it’s important to neuter a pet, and more. Attendees will walk away understanding the work we do and the need we fill in our community.
Learn the basics of responsible pet ownership. The basics of food, water, and shelter are covered. Other topics include training, nutrition, heartworm prevention, grooming, county codes, and more. Become the best pet parent you can be after attending this session.
Across the country there is a staggering number of unwanted and abandoned animals being turned over to shelters. This program highlights the significance of spaying and neutering your pet and the benefits that can be achieved by this simple procedure.
When disaster strikes, you are your pets only hope. Be prepared. It’s critical to know ahead of time what you’re going to do with your animals in the event of a hurricane or other disaster. This program will give pet owners tips on preparing an emergency kit for the animal and how to evacuate with all your pets. Once the hurricane or disaster passes, individuals should also be prepared to keep their pets safe and cared for AFTER the emergency.
Group tours of the Animal Services Shelter are available by appointment. We follow these tours with a mini program on shelter awareness and a question and answer session customized for the age of the group. Although shelter tours could be intriguing, the environment could also become noisy as you go through the kennel. For this reason, this program is not recommended for young children as the noise level may frighten them.
