Riverwalk Trail
LOCATION: The
Riverwalk Trail will follow the shoreline of Lake Monroe from the Volusia
County line to Mellonville Avenue in Sanford. LENGTH: The
trail will be 5.1 miles long when completed.
STATUS: The
portion of the trail from C-15 / Upsala Road to Mellonville Avenue
has been funded and is being constructed in conjunction with the
Sanford Riverwalk and Downtown Restoration Project. The portion
of the trail from the Volusia County line to U.S. 17-92 is being
designed by the Florida Department
of Transportation (FDOT) and
Seminole County.
CHARACTER: The
Riverwalk Trail will be one of the most scenic paved trails in the County,
with views of Lake Monroe. The trail will also provide access to historic
downtown Sanford.
FUTURE: The
Riverwalk Trail will be incorporated into downtown Sanford's redevelopment
plans and will connect to the overall trails network by the Rinehart
Road to Riverwalk
Connector. CONNECTIONS & DESTINATIONS: The
Riverwalk Trail will connect to Lake
Monroe
Wayside Park, Log Cabin Memorial Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Fort Mellon
Park, Hamilton
Elementary School, the Central
Florida Zoo, Sanford City Hall, Seminole County Courthouse, Sanford Museum,
public boat ramp, Rivership Romance, and the restaurants and shops of historic
downtown Sanford.
