LOCATION: The
Citrus Trail will travel east along the Citrus Road right-of-way from
Tuskawilla Road in the Winter Springs area to Shetland Avenue and then
south along Citrus Road past Rainbow Elementary School to Red Bug Lake
Road.
LENGTH: The
Citrus Trail will be 2 miles long when completed.
STATUS: A
small portion of the trail was built by the developer of the Citrus Oaks
Subdivision. The County owns most of the right-of-way on which the trail
will be built. Currently, there is a dirt trail along the east-west route
which is fragmented due to the absence of a bridge over Howell Creek. The
County plans to complete construction of some minor sidewalk gaps in the
area to improve pedestrian safety around Rainbow Elementary School, but
the trail project is currently on hold.
CHARACTER: The
east-west portion of the Citrus Trail will run through a beautiful
natural area and cross over Howell Creek while the north-south portion
will run
alongside Citrus Road. The Citrus Trail will be a paved neighborhood
trail.
FUTURE: The
County hopes to connect the Citrus Trail to the Cross
Seminole Trail via a neighborhood trail along Red Bug Lake Road.
CONNECTIONS & DESTINATIONS: The
Citrus Trail will connect local residential areas to Rainbow
Elementary School. In the future, there may be a connection to the
Oviedo Marketplace, and the Cross Seminole
Trail.
