Studies have shown that recreational trails do not increase neighborhood crime. In fact, the residents along a trail tend to feel a sense of pride and ownership in their trail and monitor activities along its path. Pedestrian and bicycle access to property brings much less criminal activity than road access due to the ability to quickly flee the scene of a crime in a vehicle rather than on foot or on a bicycle. Local trails will be periodically monitored by neighborhood and bicycle police.
