FROM LIEUTENANT GORDON "SCOTT" PLEASANTS
During my career as a police officer, I have had the privilege to work in various assignments associated with of the job. However, no assignment has been as satisfying as my involvement with the Traffic Section for the Casselberry Police Department and my participation in the Seminole County Community Traffic Safety Team. Our concept of the many law enforcement agencies, traffic engineering, the Department of Transportation, and other private and public entities working towards one goal, to reduce the number of fatalities, injuries and the severity of injuries due to traffic crashes in Seminole County; is not only amazing but also a reality.
Over the past 10 years, I have seen the cooperation between all Seminole County law enforcement agencies working together to address pressing issues through the use of a mutual aid agreement. This agreement allows us to work as one large enforcement team, rather than smaller teams working towards different goals. These efforts could not be as effective if we didn’t have the cooperation, teamwork and effort of all of the other components of the CTST as well. These components engage the public through seat belt education, child seat installation campaigns, bicycle safety education and rodeos, pedestrian safety and much more.
We have learned through our many efforts that one aspect of traffic safety alone will not work. We have to involve all methods of roadway safety together - including Enforcement, Education, Engineering and Emergency Medical Services. The Seminole County CTST embraces this theory in a combined effort to make our roadways safer for all Seminole County residents and the visitors who drive within our community.
