Robin ButlerMESSAGE FROM ROBIN BUTLER

Welcome to the Seminole County Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) Web page. The basic premise of a CTST is local agencies working together to solve local traffic safety concerns. Our mission is to reduce the number and severity of Traffic Crashes in Seminole County. Our CTST is a multi-jurisdictional, multi-disciplinary organization of volunteers representing each of our seven cities, our county and state government as well as private agencies. There are currently 57 CTST's operating across the State of Florida and the Seminole County CTST was the first in the State!  When we originally organized, we were known as TEAM (Traffic Enforcement and Management). The Seminole County CTST is recognized around the State for the cooperation, communication and commitment to excellence, which exemplifies the spirit of a true Team.

Motor vehicle crashes occur every 15 seconds and are the leading cause of death and injury in the United States today. An average of 44,000 people are killed each year at a cost of 150 billion dollars while another 1.4 million are injured. Analysis of motor vehicle crashes indicates that 85% of the contributing factors are associated with the driver.  In 2007 there were 2988 traffic fatalities in the State of Florida.

By using the Team approach and combining law enforcement, emergency medical services, public education and engineering efforts, the agencies involved in traffic safety can address road improvements, driver education and enhance response times. Through events, on-going educational programs, safety campaigns and traffic enforcement activities we utilize the four "E's" (Education, Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services and Engineering) combining knowledge and resources to solve traffic safety problems in our County.

On behalf of the Seminole County CTST, thank you for your interest in Traffic Safety.

Sincerely,

Robin Butler, Chairman
