S.O.R. Losers by Avi

Ed and his friends don't know one single thing about soccer. Neither does their coach. But after two practices they start playing games. Read this funny book and see how they do.
Logan, Keeth Elementary (Florida) Grade 3

I recommend this book to people who like sports stories. It's about 11 kids who go to a school where they must play at least one sport. They are forced to play soccer. They really are poor players.

This book is about a girl named Maise. She wants to be on the cheerleading team, but she did not make it. She likes this kid at her school named Eric Delong and will do anything to be near him. He is going to try out for the wrestling team, so Maise decides to try out too. She makes the team but it is a lot harder than she thinks. She beats some people but most forfeit because they don't think it's right for a girl to wrestle. She has to decide if she should do things that other people want her to do or things that she truly wants to do and is good at. It's a really good book.

Coaching Ms. Parker by Carla Heymsfeld

I enjoyed reading Coaching Ms. Parker because it was about baseball and friends. Two of the main characters are Ms. Parker & the head coach. They just want to play a little baseball by killing the other team. How could they know that it would change their lives & the life of Ms. Parker in one day? Only one thing is certain - playing that game was a really killer idea.

This book was awesome. It has great details & is very exciting. It's about 4 friends that are on the same football team in high school for their senior year & plan to attend the same college so they'll be together. But one of the friends is an outstanding quarterback & gets a scholarship offer from a major college. What will he do? The book never gets boring. Once you start reading you can't put it down! It is an excellent book for kids ages 9-13. I give it 2 thumbs up.

The Chicken Doesn't Skate by Gordon Korman

Rinehart Lifts by R. R. Knudson

What can a 9 year old boy who can't catch, can't throw & can't run do? Zan Hagen & Arthur Rinehart are best friends. Zan is athletic, knows all the top athletes' names & keeps a sports journal. Arthur is an A student, likes to read aloud to the class, tend his plants & cheer Zan on to victory. But when the Mighty Four, stars of the school teams, pay Rinehart not to play with them, Zan is outraged. On the Saturday Sports Spectacular Zan discovers weightlifting & promises that if Arthur succeeds at this sport, she will make his ferns grow flowers. All through the Fall & Winter Rinehart lifts weights & Zan encourages him while she plans the Mr. Arlington Contest that will once and for all show the Mighty Four that Rinehart is a body to be reckoned with. I started to read this book just for fun last fall. I am just like Arthur Rinehart. I am smart, get good grades but I stink so bad at sports. I can't even throw a ball. This book inspired me to change all that. I now own my very own set of weights & I use them almost every day. I would recommend this book to all the brains out there who have always dreamed of having brains and muscles.

Third Base Rookie by D. Decker

The title of this book is "Third Base Rookie" and the author is D. Decker. This is a great book. It's a book that I couldn't put down, and I don't read much. It's about a kid, Vic Scalzi, who gets in trouble for robbing a store but he didn't do it. His brother, Joe Scalzi, did. Vic goes to be in Major League Baseball. John Madigan is a guy from Vic's city who doesn't like him because he is a Scalzi kid. One day something of Madigan's is missing and Joe took it but Madigan blamed Vic. Vic got it back from Joe. Madigan found it on Vic, though, so the whole team wouldn't talk to him. To find out what else happens you should read this book.

Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton

This is an amazing story of Bethany Hamilton, young famous surfer, who had her arm bitten off by a 13-foot tiger shark.  This is the best story ever, written by Bethany Hamilton herself, of getting back on the board.  I highly recommend this story to everyone, even non-surfers.  I love the fantastic photos of Bethany and her friends and family, and the tale of how it happened on Halloween morning, and how much she was hurting.  This book is one I reach for again and again!

Million Dollar Kick by Dan Gutman

This is a hysterical book.  When I read it, my eyes were glued to the page.  It is about a middle school girl, friendless, not popular, and not even close to athletic.  It all starts out when she takes her little sister, Briana, to Doughnut City for a celebration, and Briana fills out a form (but she's too young and so her older sister fills it out with her name and info thinking, "oh well, what are the chances of winning?") hoping to win and make the "million dollar kick" where you have a chance (if you win) to take a shot at the goal.  But unexpectedly she did win the raffle to take the whopping shot.  But terrific, an experienced soccer player Carmen Applegate is standing between the goal.  Do you think a middle school girl, who has never touched a soccer ball in her life, (except for a bad experience earlier on in her life) would win against a world famous, athletic soccer player?  This book is a book that teaches you to make a shot at your goal.  Anyway, the only thing standing between her and a million dollars is Carmen Applegate...

I really enjoyed reading a book about baseball because baseball is so cool.  The book is about a boy that goes back in time with a very rare and priceless card.  He goes back in time with Honus Wagner.  He watches Honus play Ty Cobb in a World Series back in time.
