Tommy and his sister, Annika, have a new neighbor and her name is Pippi Longstocking. She has crazy, and I mean crazy, pigtails, no parents to tell her what to do, a horse on her porch and a pet monkey named Mr. Nilsson. This book is very good. I feel like reading this every day. You should read it.
Lauryn, Lawton Elementary (Florida) Grade 4

Pippi Longstocking has just moved into Villa Villekulla. Next door, she meets some kids named Tommy and Annika. Pippi does some pretty wacky things that normal kids wouldn't do. She throws eggs up in the air and lets the yolks spill on her head. I recommend this book if you like comedy and laughter.

Matilda by Roald Dahl

This book is funny, scary and good too.  Matilda is a little girl who taught herself to read when she was three and she can multiply in her head very fast.  Her family is so crazy!  They are all very mean to her.  The Trunchbull, who is her principal, is very mean to all the kids too.  She swirled a girl by her hair and threw her over the school fence because she had pigtails and the Trunchbull doesn't allow pigtails at her school.  The Trunchbull doesn't even want kids at her school!  When Matilda discovers that she has powers to lift and move things with her eyes--look out Trunchbull!  This book is very magical and will make you laugh!

An overweight girl named Elsie went to a new school and at first everyone there made fun of her. But some of the girls gave her a chance and they began to be friends. Then Elsie stole some lunch money to buy food to cheat on her diet and it looked like she was going to be suspended. I recommend this book because it kept my interest from beginning to end.

Nick Kramer was going to put Mitch in his place once & for all. Nick will beat Mitch even though Mitch is always doing things before Nick can do them.
Raina, Jackson Heights Middle (Florida) Grade 7

Joshua T. Bates Takes Charge by Susan Shreve

I enjoyed this book because it's good to read if you have flunked. The main 3 characters were Josh, Sean & Tommy. This book is a cool book to read. How could they know how it feels to flunk? Joshua Bates tries to take charge again & makes a successful passing grade.
Chris, Jackson Heights Middle (Florida) Grade 7

My opinion on this book is good because this book actually made me think. I learned that you have to stand up for your friends. Joshua is just a kid who has been picked on a lot by John & Terry - 2 bullies. Will Joshua have the guts to stand up for a nerd (a new kid) & get beat up?
Christian, Jackson Heights Middle (Florida) Grade 7

Dogs Don't Tell Jokes by Louis Sachar

I read this book because it was exciting & it really moved me. The main character's name was Gary W. Boone. He just wanted to be a star (stand-up comedian). The talent show was coming up but he didn't know if he would be funny.
Tina, Jackson Heights Middle (Florida) Grade 7

Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger by Louis Sachar

I really truly enjoyed this book. I liked it because it was very silly & fun to read. This school was shut down for 243 days & the kids that went there had to go to different schools. When the school finally reopened the kids had smiles on their faces! However, when they noticed the size of their old teacher, their smiles faded.
Jeff, Jackson Heights Middle (Florida) Grade 7

I liked this book because it was very fun to read & the fun kept on going. There were lots of kids & teachers. One of the things that happened is that they were out of school & they could not wait to get back to school. When they got back, a boy thought he knew there was something different about the teacher.
David, Jackson Heights Middle (Florida) Grade 7

Freckle Juice is about a boy named Jeff that wants to be like the other boys. The other boys have freckles & he wants them too. He tries putting marker dots on his face to see if that would work. It doesn't. A girl gives him a special recipe for 50 cents. He reads the instructions & he drinks it. Will it taste good & will that work?
Dave, Jackson Heights Middle (Florida) Grade 8

Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar

This book is hilarious!  Wayside School was accidentally built straight up and down instead of straight across--and there are 30 stories!  Miss Zarves teaches on the 19th story, but there is no 19th story.  There is no Miss Zarves.  Understand?  Good.  Explain it to me!
Ella, Partin Elementary (Florida) Grade 5

This book is weird -- but it's so funny!  It's a must-read, and not boring.  You can never guess what will happen next -- Sharie always falls asleep in class.  (Ms. Jewels said that means she is learning a lot.)  Some people only read upside down, some people count backwards but always find the right answer.  And others just read the book.
Charlotte, Lawton Chiles Middle School (Florida) Grade 7

Mrs. Gorf, a really mean teacher, will turn people/students into apples if they are bad or if they say anything.  One day Mrs. Gorf accidentally turns herself into an apple and Louis the yard teacher without knowing it eats her.  Then the students get a new teacher, Mrs. Jewls.  The students get into all sorts of trouble throughout the book.  I would give this book 5 stars.  I would recommend this for ages 8 and older because it's very funny and it's easy to read, but it has some things that kids under 8 might not understand.  It was AWESOME to me because it has fantasy and realistic fiction mixed together.
Anna, Baton Elementary (North Carolina) Grade 5

I enjoyed reading this book because it's really funny with some unusual parts. This book is about a kid by the name of Bradley who is bad. He says give him a dollar or he will spit on you. Can Bradley be a better person with the help of the school counselor?
Matt, Jackson Heights Middle (Florida) Grade 7

Beware of the Haunted Toilet by Elaine Moore

It was about a long spooky night!!! Someone went to use the restroom. They flushed the toilet. The toilet made spooky sounds all night long. Elaine Moore is a good author. She should be in show business. This book isn't the best story you can ever read, but it is very interesting. I encourage everyone to read it. It'll give them chills up their spine. It inspires people to be more careful when they use the restroom.
Eddie, Jackson Heights Middle (Florida) Grade 7

How To Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell

This is an exciting book because you don't know how Billy will react after eating the worms. I think he & his friends should just get along. I also think they should treat Billy with a bit more respect. I think the author of this book has a very good imagination & a good way to describe how the characters feel. He also likes to make his stories life like. I think Thomas Rockwell is a good author & I recommend him to you.
Louise, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think it was a very exciting book because the characters are very interesting. Joe and Alan bet Billy $50 to eat 15 worms over 15 days. Billy ate 6 worms & felt sick. That's why I like the book.
Christopher, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think the book is brilliant!!! If I had to give the book a score out of 10, it would be 8 because it is interesting. I think the book is interesting because I think eating worms is disgusting.
Alix, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think Billy is a bit crazy to eat 15 worms for $50. I think Thomas Rockwell put a lot of effort into this book. I have really enjoyed this book so far. I would read it again. My favorite part of the book is when Billy ate his 5th worm & the boys made up the story of Jo's mum fainting to scare Billy so he wouldn't finish the bet.
Nicola, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think Billy is a bit crazy to eat 15 worms. His mum went crazy when she heard about the bet. He would get $50 if he eats all 15 worms. I think Thomas Rockwell put a lot of effort into this book. I think the book is great.
Bridgette, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think that the book was really good with explaining & describing what was happening. It was great how the words weren't hard to read. It was cool how the chapters were short.
Wilhelm, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

How To Eat Fried Worms is a very interesting story about a boy who is in a dare with 2 boys to win $50. I think this is the funniest book that I have read so far. My favorite part is when Billy eats the 5th worm & Joe makes up the story about his mother fainting. I think you should read it.
Brooke, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

This book is about a boy named Billy who made a bet with 2 boys, Alan & Joe, to eat 15 worms for $50 & did eat them. It was a good book.
Nacho, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

The book is OK but not the best book because it's a bit slow & hard to keep up with. It is not very good for younger readers because it's under a kids topic but it's a book for older readers. This book was written in England. The story topic is a bit dodgy. It's more a story for children from the ages of 5 to 7. We give it a 3 star rating.
Brod, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think it was OK but on some parts it was hard because you can't understand who is doing what.
Claire, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think it is a good book because it is funny. I think I would like it more if it was more exciting because I like adventure stories. The characters are good. I like it because the author explains it very well!
Madeleine, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I really like this book because I enjoyed reading it & I think that Thomas Rockwell really enjoyed writing it. I also like the characters in this story. I like how they eat the worms.
Tara, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

Younger readers would like this book because it's funny with a good sense of humor. I give it a 4 star rating for younger readers.
Daniel, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think this book is too hard to understand because it is not a straight story line. The book is gross because they eat worms & it is weird. It is a bit boring because the setting is not in one place.
Stephanie, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I didn't like it much because it wasn't a good story line. But sometimes it was funny. I couldn't read it again but I'm enjoying it at this moment.
Julianne, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think the book is great because of the characters & the cool things they did in the story like eating worms & cheating.
Natalie, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I like How To Eat Fried Worms because it's an interesting book about worms. The book is great for all kids. Thomas Rockwell is a good author.
Jacklyn, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I think it was really great about describing the actions and arguments. I wish I was as good as Thomas Rockwell at writing stories. I hope he will write more stories in the future.
Tim, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

I like how Alan & Joe made the bet. I wouldn't eat 15 worms, not even for $50. I think this book was good & Thomas Rockwell did a great job.
Bridgette, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

Thomas Rockwell is a really cool writer because his books are real and interesting. One of his books I really liked was How To Eat Fried Worms. I liked the bit when Billy ate his first fried worm. I liked the book because it was funny & you never knew what was going to happen next.
Hannah, St. Francis of Assisi (Canberra, Australia) Grade 5

Fourth Grade Rats by Jerry Spinelli

I think this is a funny book because... In the story the two main characters are Sudds and Joey. It's funny because in the story Joey says Sudds has to become a man because he's in the fourth grade. Last year he was an angel. In the story they have all these little charts. For example, 3rd graders are angels and 4th graders are rats. Well, I hope you check out this book at your public library.

Nasty Stinky Sneakers by Eve Bunting

My book is "Nasty Stinky Sneakers by Eve Bunting. This book is about a boy named Colin who tries to enter a contest for the stinkiest shoes so he can win 3 pairs of slam dunkers - one pair is for himself, one is for his sister, Amy and one is for his best friend, Webster. Colin thinks he is going to win until he finds out his shoes are missing.
Overall this is a good book. It would be for anyone who likes short funny mystery stories. If you don't like to read a lot, you should probably choose a book like this. On the other hand, if you don't like stinky sneakers, don't choose this book.

Don't Get Caught in the Girls Locker Room by Todd Strasser

This book is really great.  It is about three boys who always do bad things, but bend the rules and don't get caught.  There's a rumor in their school that there is a book in one of the girl's lockers and the book has secrets about every kid.  So the three boys, Wilson, Dusty and Kyle, sneak in the girls locker room and steal the book.  The principal suspects they snuck in, but they go around the rules and don't get caught.

Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary

I read this book while I was in school.  It is a really good book about a kid whose mom and dad get divorced and he is staying with his mom and his dad took their dog with him.  The boy's name is Leigh Botts.  The author didn't write it in story form.  Instead she wrote it in letter form.  The person Leigh writes to is his favorite author Mr. Henshaw.  I hope you look forward to reading it.

Zombie Butts from Uranus! by Andy Griffiths

This book is the best I have read.  I can't stop laughing when I read about the Great White Butt, the Zombie Butts, and the Butt Mobile.  And I can never put this book down and I almost laughed to death!
Nicholas, Stenstrom Elementary (Florida) Grade 5

Why are Dogs Noses Wet? by Howie Dewin

We dogs know we make you laugh.  We do silly things all the time.  But now it's time to find out why!  Why do we bury bones?  Or howl at the moon?  And why in the world do we sniff at everything?  We have reasons and they might not be what you expect!  Now you'll hear them straight from the pup's mouth.
Briana, Winter Springs Elementary (Florida) Grade 4

Made You Look by Diane Roberts

This book is about a sixth grader named Jason and his family.  They live in Texas and one day they went to California.  Jason really wanted to be a Maniac in Masquerade Mania.  My favorite part is when Jason plays the game, because after he answers three questions correctly, he gets to spin to win.
Chethani, Woodlands Elementary (Florida) Grade 3

The Cat's Quizzer by Dr. Seuss

The Cat's Quizzer is a great book for learning but the book is still funny.  You have to get at least one question right to beat a zozzfozzel, but if you get all of them right, you will be smarter than the Cat in the Hat.  So are you smarter than the Cat in the Hat?
Examples        Q. What is it that comes out of a what is it?
                          A. A whatsis comes out of a what is it.
                          Q. How old do you have to be to be the president?
                          A. You have to be at least 35.
It's a great book for teachers, kids, and adults.  It's a great book for all ages.  Kids will have fun going through all the funny but tricky quiz.  The book has some great illustrations of a few Dr. Seuss characters.
Austin, Baton Elementary (North Carolina) Grade 5

Leaping Beauty by Gregory Maguire

Do you love the fairytales Cinderella?  Or Rumplestiltskin? Or maybe even Little Red Riding Hood?  How about animals?  Don't you love the cute looks from robins, hamsters, and gerbils?  Well if you do, I highly recommend Leaping Beauty adn Other Animal Fairy Tales by Gregory Maguire.  This original book contains funny parodies of classic fairytales such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf and many more.  One of my personal favorite stories from the book is Cinder-elephant.  It is about an elephant who is treated badly by her stepmother and sisters who were human.  All in all this book has 8 funny stories and little sketches to go along.  If you ever need a book and a little laugh, I highly recommend this for you.
Cierra, Edith Wolford Elementary (Colorado) Grade 5

Help! I'm Trapped in My Teacher's Body by Todd Strasser

This book is about a kid that switched bodies with his teacher.  It takes them a while to fix the problem and they learn something about each other.  I like this book because it is funny and is a quick read.
Nicholas, Grade 5

The Grim Grotto by Lemony Snicket

I would recommend this awesome book for grades 3-6.  First, because it has some tough and difficult words in it for example contortionist.  Second, because one of the characters is very cruel to the kids by making them do all the work.  But don't let it turn you away because that is what makes the story so interesting.  This is a long suspenseful book about how four kids go looking for a sugar bowl but they are not sure why it is so important.  Then when they come back from looking for the sugar bowl they notice that a...   You will have to figure out what happens next by reading the Grim Grotto.

My favorite part of the book is when they figure out that a member of The Quimby, which happens to be a girl, is a brother to the "hook handed" man.  Then the person betrays her friends to stay with him.  You might ask who the hook handed man is.  I can't tell you because I have already told you that it was a girl that betrayed her friends.  So that gives you another reason to read the book.

I my vote I would give this book five stars.  It makes you want to read the next book in the series.  Some people don't like to read a long time but with this book you would.  So I promise you, anyone in their right mind would love the book.
Caitlin, Baton Elementary (North Carolina) Grade 5

Loser by Jerry Spinelli

Loser written by Jerry Spinelli is a funny book.  It is about a boy named Donald Zinkoff who acts a little bit like a loser.  In kindergarten when a fourth grader takes his hat he simply says, "ok" and makes the fourth grader made.  He always raises his hand when he is wrong and makes his team lose the fourth grade field day.  Who would not call this kid a loser?

To me this book is great.  There is a lot of humor on every page.  This book is good for teenagers so that they could realize whether they have been treated or made somebody else feel like a loser.  One to ten this book breaks the charts, so honestly I don't know why you are still sitting here reading this review.  What you should be doing is running out to the nearest library and check out loser today.  This book will make you think from the loser's point of view and how Zinkoff tries to deal with his loser problems.  I really enjoyed the book and know you will too.

The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis

The Watsons Go to Birmingham is a hilarious book filled with many whimsical stories.  Each chapter is like a different story.  There are three kids, Byron, Kenny and Joetta.  Their mom is pretty uptight and their dad supports everything their mom says.  Somehow though on a trip to Alabama some fun things happen.  Great book!
