The B. F. G. by Roald Dahl

The B. F. G. is an exciting story about an orphan, named Sophie, and a "runt" giant, called the B. F. G., and how they stop the nine horrible, man-eating giants from gobbling up all of us "Human Beans". I have read this exciting tale 13 times (so far).
Nikki, Homeschool (Florida) Grade 5

Roald Dahl is my favorite author.  Sophie is the main character.  She's in bed when she spots a giant.  That giant is the B.F.G. (Big Friendly Giant).  He has to take Sophie because no one can see a giant or they get taken away.  The problem is that in orphanages and schools, kids keep disappearing because unfriendly giants keep taking them and eating them.  The Bloodbottler, the Fleshlumpeater, the Meatdripping Giant and the Gizzardgulping Giant are the bad giants.  Sophie becomes friends with the B.F.G. and comes up with a plan to defeat the bad giants.  This book has lots of adventures and some parts are funny.

A centipede, a silk worm, a glow worm, a spider. a lady bug & a grasshopper all went with James into the peach. This fantasy story was fun to read. I especially liked the part with the sharks.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling

You may have seen the movie but I still recommend reading this book. It is fun, funny, mysterious & an all around good book. Wizards & witches both bad & good fill the amazingly well written pages of this awesome book. Harry has a dark, deep secret that he doesn't even know about. Later the same evil creature that killed his parents is out to get him. This is a book you will be forced to read over & over again (if you read all seven first).
Richard, Coal Mt. Elementary (Georgia) Grade 5

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is about Harry who is very famous.  Voldemort killed Harry's parents, and Harry lived.  He lives with his uncle and aunt who are very mean to him.  But then, Harry meets Hagrid who is very big, but nice.  Soon, Harry goes to Hogwarts School.  His team is Gryffindor.  He learns magic in the school.  Then, Harry saw his parents in the Mirror of Erised.  Also, Harry learns about the sorcerer's stone.  He saw that the three headed dog named Fluffy was guarding the stone.  He thought that Professor Snape or Voldemort wants the stone, but Professor Quirrel was there!  Then, Harry got the stone.

My favorite part is when Harry flies on his broomstick because it is magic.  I like this book because Harry had his freedom, and has friends.  I recommend this book to my friends because it is a wonderful story!

My thoughts about this book are that I like the creativity and imagination.  Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was good because of the way it grabs your attention.  This book is full of fun and adventure.  Having the idea of flying gives you a happy feeling and having friends like Harry has friends.  I would like people to read this book because of the joy it will give you to read and the imagination it will let you discover.

This is the second Harry Potter book. In it Harry, Ron & Hermione get into trouble once more because something or someone is attacking Hogwarts. Gina (Ron's sister) is going to Hogwarts & is looking forward to her best year ever. Draco Malfoy makes the Slytherin Quidditch team & is looking for Slytherin's heir. He accuses Harry, but is it Harry? Who is it?
Katie, Indian Trails Middle (Florida) Grade 8

The setting of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is in Hogwarts School.  To get to Hogwarts, Harry has to get on a train, but Ron and Harry couldn't make it.  They went on a flying car to Hogwarts.  Then they crashed into the Whomping Willow Tree, got in trouble and they had detention.  But soon, Harry finds out about the Chamber of Secrets.  On the wall sentences were written in blood.  Students were turned into stone, like Hermione.  Ginny Weasley was attacked by a monster.  Also, the ghost of Moaning Myrtle told Harry and Ron that she died in the bathroom because of the monster.  Harry and Ron went to the Chamber of Secrets with Professor Gilderoy.  Then, Harry found Ginny Weasley...

My favorite part is when Harry found the monster because Harry and Ron were awarded two hundred points each.  I like this book because it reminds me of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets movie.  I recommend this book to someone who likes adventure and mystery stories.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling

I found this book the best of the 4 Harry Potter books because of the challenges that he did to see who was the best wizard. I think the best one was when he had to get the egg from the fierce dragon.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling

Aunt Marge, Uncle Vernon's sister, is coming to visit the family. Harry Potter, a 13 yr. old wizard who attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry, is not at all excited to hear this. You see, Aunt Marge dislikes Harry as much or perhaps even more than the rest of the Dursley family. Before the coming of Aunt Marge, Harry is taken aside by Uncle Vernon and is told he must not mention any thing about magic or where he goes to school. Harry also discovers that a man named Sirius Black has escaped from a prison & is claimed to be highly dangerous to everyone. When Aunt Marge finally arrives Harry gets horribly angry with her when a family insult occurs. Harry gets so upset that he blows Marge up like a balloon! While running away from the Dursley's home, Harry crosses a mysterious dog & a magical bus, the Knight Bus. The Knight Bus takes Harry to Diagon Alley where he was going to stay until school started.
At Hogwarts, Harry discovers that Sirius Black had escaped from Azkaban, the wizard prison, and also that Black is looking for him! Harry can't go anywhere now without the protection of a creature called a dementor. While trying to concentrate on his schoolwork, Harry is distracted by many things. He's distracted by Wood's constant need for perfection on the Quidditch field, his upcoming finals, and most of all, the threat of Sirius Black coming to Hogwarts and killing him.
So, a few questions remain. Will Harry & the rest of the Quidditch team win the Quidditch Cup? Will Harry, Ron (Harry's best friend) & Hermione (Harry's other best friend, a genius) pass their exams? Will Harry be able to finally go to Hogsmeade with the rest of his classmates? Will Sirius Black ever be captured & brought back to Azkaban? Will Sirius ever get to Harry?
Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban is a great book that would be good for people who want to get away from daily troubles because it takes you into a whole new world that is a perfect fairytale place, or people who want to explore their imagination. It's great for any range of people.
Ashley, Superior Senior High School (Wisconsin) Grade 9

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is about a boy named Harry, and his friends, Ron, and Hermione.  At home Harry blows up Aunt Marge using magic.  Then, he runs away to a knight bus.  Stan, the conductor told him that a dangerous person named Sirius Black escaped from Azakaban.  Then, Harry met Mr. Weasley, Ron's dad.  He told Harry that Sirius Black escaped to find Harry, and kill him.  Everyone was talking about Sirius Black.  Harry finds Sirius Black in the Whomping Willow, a tree that's near Hogwarts.  He also found out that, Scabbers, Ron's pet rat was a person, named Peter Pettigrew.  He saw Professor Lupin come in.  Then, Harry, and Hermione used a Time-Turner to save someone's life.

Here is a question:  Will Harry beat Sirius Black or not?  My favorite part is when Harry received a Firebolt from somebody because it is the fastest broom.  I like this book because it is mysterious, and remarkable.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J. K. Rowling

"It's time for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry. Please sit down." This is a famous quote of Professor Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, an exciting fantasy book that is great for anyone who likes adventure. It's not easy being attacked by dementors and then being kidnapped by people that belonged to an Order you never knew existed. 15-year-old Harry Potter knows what it is like and he's been through a whole lot more: saving stones, killing Basilisks, and escaping the worst wizard of all time, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named 4 times. He even has a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Dolores Umbridge, and she's not exactly a picnic. Her personality is worse than Professor Snape, the Potions teacher. Harry starts having dreams and they're not your ordinary types of dreams, they're visions. When Harry sees someone very close to him getting attacked, Harry is to take Occlumency lessons with Snape to shut his mind out. But every night, he is always walking down a dark corridor and going through a door and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named wants whatever is there.
Join Harry and his old and new friends who take you on an adventure you'll never forget. I love the Harry Potter series and this was a very good book. Harry was kind of annoying because he screams and yells way too much, but it's still one of my favorites.
Freya, Superior Senior High School (Wisconsin) Grade 9

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is about Harry running for his fifth year at Hogwarts.  He has a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher named Professor Umbridge.  She is a repulsive woman.  Somebody set dementors on Harry, been reading Harry's mail, and other peculiar, horrible things.  Something in the Ministry of Magic has been haunting Harry's dreams.  What is it?  Harry and his friends have many exams to do.  But, Harry has other things to worry about.  Harry and his friends are also Dumbledore's Army so, they have several meetings.

Will Harry find out what has been haunting his dreams?  Will he defeat the most terrible wizard?  You should read this majestic book and find out what will happen.  My favorite part is when Harry finds out what is haunting his dreams.  I like this book because it has adventure, magic, and scary events.

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

Ella Enchanted is about a young girl who is under a spell given to her at birth by a mean fairy. Just recently Ella's mother died & now things are harder than ever. The spell is not a good one. It makes Ella obedient. This means if you tell her to go to bed, she will. If you tell her to jump off the top of the Empire State building, she will, no matter how hard she tries not to. You may not think being obedient is very hard, but if you read this book you may find out it is. The interesting thing about this book is that it happens in the time of ogres, centaurs, fairies & gnomes. It's such a good book that as it neared the end, I began biting my nails. Will Ella break this dreadful spell? Read it. It's a wonderful book.
Casey, Sabal Point Elementary (Florida) Grade 4

This book is sooo great!  The story catches you up quickly and doesn't let you go!  It's funny, and so relatable.  It makes you mad, it makes you laugh...all the essentials for a plumb good book!

Which Witch? by Eva Ibbotson

Which Witch is a funny book about a group of witches who want to marry a warlock, so they perform various spells in order to gain his love. Who will marry the handsome warlock? Will it be one of the nasty twins, the old witch or the beautiful young girl? I give this book 9 out of 10 stars.

The Gargoyle by Garry Kilworth

The Gargoyle is about a boy called Alex that meets a stone gargoyle that comes to life. The gargoyle goes to Alex's house one night when Alex is asleep. The gargoyle gets chased by the police, goes back to Alex's house & jumps through the window. After that, the gargoyle takes Alex to the hospital to see his mum. I think the book is very exciting because the gargoyle does amazing things.

Avalon Web of Magic by Rachel Roberts

Have you ever thought about magic? Well, I have! In this story Adriane secretly follows Stormbringer (a Mist wolf) right through the portal & ends up in the magic world. She also ends up landing in a slime which turns out to be a slimy monkey creature named Scorge. Her problem now is she's stuck in Aldemor, a totally other world of magic. There is also a boy named Zach who is Adriane's friend. Adriane gives Zach the dragon stone for his birthday. Zach uses the stone to find the evil dragon & kill it. To find out what happens to Adriane after she is captured by the slimy monkey creature named Scorge, read this book for yourself. The book made me feel like I was in a magic world too. I felt magic power inside of me, just like Adriane. I highly recommend this fantasy to girls only of all ages, except adults.

Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher by Bruce Coville

Are you really into dragons & dragon stories? While Jeremy is reading in the library, he finds a dragon book which he checks out. On the way home a couple of boys tease him. He runs away but trips, drops the book & out falls a note. The note says, "Come to Elives Magic Supplies shop." At this point his adventure begins with a dragon egg. Classmate Mary Lu, Jeremy's friend, happens to see what Jeremy sees, a dragon. They begin to have big problems. One of these problems is feeding the dragon! Their solution is stealing dad's meat, but how do they do it? Another problem is fitting the dragon into the house! Remember this is not a small beast. The story created a queasy feeling in my stomach, but then I got interested in the story & forgot about my stomach. The characters seemed real & believable & yet the story seemed like a fairy tale. Not only that, but it made me tired & seemed like a nice dream. I recommend this book to people of all ages, including adults. The genre is fantasy.

The Horse and His Boy by C. S. Lewis

This book comes after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I have got the set of the Chronicles of Narnia. They are fun books with heaps of action and I am up to The Horse and His Boy. It is about a boy named Shasta who leaves a fake Dad to run away with a Narnian horse who can speak. The horse is named Breehy-hinny-brinny-hoohy-hah but Shasta calls him Bree. On their way to Narnia they meet a girl named Aravis and her Narnian horse Hwin who are going to Narnia. Hwin remembers Bree in the free country of Narnia. Also Prince Rabadash is trying to kill high King Peter to get married to Queen Susan. I recommend this book to any kids. And remember to read the first book, The Magician's Nephew, first and then go on to the others.

The Giver by Lois Lowry

This book is packed with adventure! I would read it 10 times if I could. It is about a boy named Jonas that goes through the tough time of a 12 year old. He receives training from the Giver. There are many feelings that Jonas goes through - pleasure, pain, excitement and much, much more!
Demarinia, Millennium Middle School (Florida) Grade 7

A thrilling book about a boy who lives in a utopian society.  In the community everyone gets assigned a job.  Jonas (the main character) receives the job of the Giver or receiver.  In the community no one has feelings of affection for one another.  They can't see in color and they don't even know what animals are.  Jonas receives pain, love and sadness while receiving past and present memories of the community members.  He wants to keep feeling loved so he doesn't take his pills that make him have no feelings.  Then Jonas learns of a horrific doing in the community.  Will Jonas do something to stop it?  Science fiction with awesome suspense book 2 thumbs up!

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live forever? Read this story and see. Winnie, one of the characters, has never been in the woods before. The woods is a very peaceful place. That's where she meets Jesse drinking the water. She thinks Jesse is very nice. Jesse brings Winnie home with him since he's afraid that she will tell that they are in their woods. Meanwhile, the Tucks tell Winnie that they cna live forever by drinking the water. After, the man in the yellow suit is trying to track down the Tucks and give the water to people who deserve it. I like this book because it's not confusing and they all stay in the same place, the woods. I think the author was sharing that you should be thankful for what you have.

Tunnels of Treachery by Mary Harelkin Bishop

This is a very good book. It is the 3rd book of the tunnels in Moose Jaw. It is about 4 children who went back in time to the tunnels of Moose Jaw. Kimi and Eddie are Chinese. They were born in Canada but they don't call themselves Canadians. They are not happy about their background. They won't listen to the stories their grandparents want to tell them about their history. Adrienne and Tonny are their older cousins. They think it is wrong that they won't listen to their grandparent's story. They try to get them to listen but they don't have any luck. The tin army opens up from the wall downstairs to the tunnels in the past and Kimmi and Eddie fall in. Adrienne and Tonny knew they had to go after them so they jumped in and the wall closed behind them. They get caught a lot of times in the tunnels. They always manage to escape. But will they live to go back to the present?

Sixteen Thirty-Three by Eric Flint

"Sixteen Thirty-Three" by Eric Flint is a great book. Eric Flint artfully paints a picture of East Germany during the Thirty Years' War and ingeniously adds a new twist. The book is packed with drama and excitement. Once you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down.

Prince Caspian by C. S. Lewis

The book I read was "Prince Caspian" written by C. S. Lewis. This book was one of the best books I have ever read! "Prince Caspian" is filled with magic, adventure and action. My favorite part of the book is when Trumpkin and Edmund, two of the main characters, sword fight. It is kind of hard to understand the European slang words, but you'll get it eventually. Over all, in my opinion, this book is one of the best books C. S. Lewis has ever written.

The Cricket in Times Square by George Selden

I read the book "The Cricket in Times Square" by George Selden. This is a very good book. It mixes fantasy with reality and makes it into a good book. This book is about a cricket, named Chester, who somehow makes it from the state of Connecticut to Times Square in New York City. When he thinks he is completely lost and alone, he befriends Tucker, a street smart, wise mouse and Harry, a smooth, funny, kind cat and Mario, the son of the owner of a very poor newsstand who keeps Chester as a pet. While Chester is in the custody of Mario, he finds his newfound talent. Chester can chirp any song you want. All he has to do is listen to the song one time, learn the beat and then he can play it beautifully. These are just a few of the wonderful things you will like about this book.
I would recommend this book to someone who likes fantasy and reality. This book is very logical and shows you that there is more to things than what you see. People thought that Chester was just a plain old cricket, but they didn't realize he could chirp their favorite songs. And they didn't realize it until he started entertaining people and saving the poor newsstand. I would recommend this book to anyone.

The Odyssey by Homer

The title of my selected book is "The Odyssey" by Homer. This is a fantastic selection for those who wish to preview the ancient world. Though poetic words are your guide, this tale of man's desperate attempts to achieve supreme power can still be understood. Odysseus is the man who must fight the will of his opponents, while being stranded out on the sea. Therefore, he becomes desperate for power over his own life. However, the gods of his age found favor in him and aided him in the search for his grail of life, if you will. Basically, because his old philosophies died away when he was lost out on the merciless sea, then he became alive in the ways of the world which so coldly held him for ten long years. So, in conclusion, this is a wonderful book, allowing new vocabulary to arise and theoretical plot to be laid out to depth of understanding.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini

I liked this book because it is very adventurous and violent.  It is also very interesting and magical.  And sad.  It is about a boy named Eragon and an old man named Brom.  One day Eragon finds the last dragon egg.  Little does he know what evil stands in his way.  Enjoy.

Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins

This thrilling book is something your hands will be glued to the moment you pick this novel up.  This heart-freeing story is about Gregor and his little sister named Boots.  Just when they are little (right after Boots was born), their father disappeared one day.  They fall through a vent in the washing and drying room, and the two kids are in the Underland.  This adventure is loaded with giant talking cockroaches, evil and talking rats, Princess Luxa, Henry, Vikus, yaking spiders, talking and giant bats, and many other creatures.  After a while, Gregor finds out that his father fell into the Underland, but was captured and maybe killed by rats.  Still, a big group of people from the Underland journey out to find Gregor's dad, following The Prophecy of Gray.  If you don't read this, I don't know what I'll do!

The Ancient One by T.A. Barron

T.A. Barron brings out the beauty of Oregon in his book The Ancient One.  He made me feel like I was a part of all the turmoil in the book when some loggers in Blade, Oregon had no work to do and had found a redwood grove in the "lost crater" and were planning to cut them down.  The crater was the home of an ancient tribe of Native Americans, who mysteriously disappeared a long time ago.  The story is told by Kate Gordon, a 12 year old girl, who comes to her Aunt's house in Blade, Oregon, and helps her Aunt stop the loggers.

The Ancient One is a very good book.  It has all the components needed for a fantasy book, which are: the hero, allies and enemies, strange creatures, battles, death, and a struggle between good and evil.  This book also has wonderful descriptions of the northwestern wilderness and the spirit of the Native Americans.  Overall, this book pulls you in so it feels as if you are another part of Kate, which makes you feel everything her way.  If you want to know what happens in the book, read it!

The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman

The Amber Spyglass is an amazing finish to Philip Pullman's trilogy.  To understand it, you have to read the first two books, The Golden Compass (also published as The Northern Lights) and The Subtle Knife.  The beginning chapters are very slow, but don't be fooled.  After that, the book is action-packed to the end.  It is really deep, so younger kids probably won't understand it, so I recommend it for grades 6 and up.  It is definitely the best book that I have ever read...but the ending will break your heart.

Raising Dragons by Bryan Davis

This is a really good book.  If I were you, I'd skip Chapter 8 because it gets a little gross, and you can practically feel the pain.  (But you won't understand if you don't read Chapter 8, so you're stuck reading it.)  This book is about Billy and Bonnie, who both have parents who are dragons disguised as humans.  Both of them have dragon features--Bonnie has wings and Billy is known as "Dragon Breath" since his flames are just now developing.  It turns out that their principal is the dangerous dragon slayer.  Join Billy and Bonnie on their adventures in the series titled "Dragons in our Midst".
Lindsey, Lawton Chiles Middle School (Florida) Grade 8

I told the same thing to my friend -- chapter 8 is absolutely disgusting.  Bryan Davis has made it so you can feel your OWN neck popping.  Gross.  But unfortunately, you have no choice, because the rest of the book will make no sense if you don' t.  This is really a great book, though -- it's great for all ages (my Dad loves it)!

Tyler and His Solve-a-Matic Machine by Jennifer Bouani

Absolutely one of a kind, this is a smart book for SMART kids.  My pupils loved reading this fantasy story while solving riddles and researching concepts.  The author did a great job on simplifying business language without sacrificing business basics.  Well worth the read for everyone out there looking to challenge their students.

The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker

Well this sure is a good book for those who like mystery, animals, and fantasy adventures.  One witch had turned a prince into a frog.  Princess Emma was in the yard when she saw the frog.  She felt bad for the frog so she wanted to help him.  But all she could do to help him was kiss him.  She didn't want to do that.  Soon she understood that kissing frogs are a sign of good luck.  So when she was wearing the bracelet she got turned into a frog princess.  Then...
I can't tell you the rest because it's a Sunshine State Book.  It's kind of a good book.  I'd give it a 8 out of 10.

May Bird and the Ever After by Jodi Lynn Anderson

This is one of my favorite books!  If you don't like scary things though, don't read it -- I was afraid to go downstairs at midnight in the dark by myself for a few weeks!  This book is about a girl named May Bird who lives in a place that's in the middle of a drought and there are mysterious woods.  No one that goes in the woods has ever come out -- why?  When May Bird finds a letter addressed to her -- from over fifty years ago, which is impossible --- she learns a dark, dangerous, life-threatening secret of the woods.  This is a series which continues in the sequel May Bird Among the Stars.
Elaina, Lawton Chiles Middle (Florida) Grade 6

May Bird is the kind of girl most 3rd, 4th and 5th graders (girls) can relate to like how she doesn't fit in but this book can be (in parts) funny, relating adn (not alot) a little scary (for 3rd graders).  I give it 10 out of 10 stars.  So you should read this great book!

This book is about a scientist who has created a special drug in the future on the moon when the earth has been destroyed in a nuclear war.  This drug has the power to eliminate a human's need for water and he has to keep it away from rivals who want it.  I like this book because it is science fiction and futuristic.

Juliet Dove, Queen of Love by Bruce Coville

This book is an awesome book.  It's about a girl who is not very popular.  She overhears two popular girls talking about her.  Then she goes to a store and the woman there gives her a necklace.  When she gets home she notices that everyone is acting different toward her.  She thought "how did I an unpopular girl go from geekiest girl to the most popular girl in school?"  But after a while she just wants everything to go back to the way it was even though she might not be the most popular girl in school anymore.  But in her eyes it is worth it because everyone is falling all over her and she doesn't want everyone to be all in her face.  She just wants to be alone and loved by those who really love her for who she is.  Overall this is a very great book and if you love mysteries and stories you are sure to fall in love with this amazing book!

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

I have just completed the Hugo and Nebula award winner Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card with my English class.  Even though I am not a great fan of science fiction novels, I believe that this novel changed my perspective of sci-fi books because of its multilayered plots such as the isolation of the gifted child, the war of the worlds, and sibling rivalry.  There is not one word that would describe Ender's Game.  It is exciting, intense, and a page turner that cannot be put down.

It is a great story about saving the human race from the very complex alien buggers.  Ender Wiggin, a third child who is a genius, is put through a series of games by many unknown government officials and is forced to become the next hero in fight of the buggers.  He has to endure many obstacles within himself to find the strength to be able to save all of humankind.

This book has generated many devoted fans, such as myself, and will continue to capture many more.  If you are adventurous adn imaginative this book will be very appealing to you.  As an example of not being a great fan of sci-fi, you do not have to love sci-fi books to enjoy this book.  If you have never read this book, pick it up and I guarantee you that you will finish this book in one sitting.

The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer

The House of the Scorpion is one of the most popular books written by Nancy Farmer.  It received three awards.

This book takes place 100 or so years in the future in a strip of land located between Mexico and the United States called Opium.  Matt lives with his guardian in one of the many vast poppy fields of Opium.  His guardian, Celia, tells him not to call her his mother.  Then one day, through a series of unlikely events, Matt finds himself in a place called the Big House.  He there learns that not everyone treats him as well as Celia.  In fact, they call him "Beast" and "Animal" and many such other nasty names.  He soon learns what he is, a clone, a clone of a man named Matteo Alacron.  Usually clones have their intelligence purposely dulled at birth but Matteo Alacron has his clones brains intact because "he's so rich and powerful he can break the law and no one stops him".  He also puts implants in people's brain so that they lose their free will and are slaves at his command, they are known as eejdits.  At first Matt thinks his clone base is kind because of all he does for him.  He even has a bodyguard for Matt.  He also orders that everyone treat him normally.  But really he uses his clone's internal organs to replace his own.  Matt thinks there is no way that he would ever use his organs but it turns out he is wrong.  The powerful drug lord is evil at heart and that will never change.  Can Matt survive the powerful grip of the drug lord of Opium, Matteo Alacron?

1984 by George Orwell

The future was never so bleak.
I was told to read this book.  I would like to say it was my own choice, however it was assigned by my teacher.

Anyways, the future in 1984 is fiction, but it is very relevant today.  With the enhancements in technology we are slowly turning into Orwell's "Big Brother State".  In this "State", we are constantly being watched.  I went to a website that inspired me.  It had a graphic of a tube that reminded me of the pneumatic tubes they used in 1984, which was Orwell's great imagination at work.

Much of Oceanic society is based upon the old USSR.  The "Two Minutes' Hate" was the ritual demonstration of "State" enemies and rivals; "Big Brother" resembles the USSR and the paranoia of its leaders; Another suggested inspiration for Goldstein is Emma Goldman, the famous Anarchist figure.  Doctored photography is a propaganda technique and the creation of "unpersons" in the story, analogous to USSR enemies being made nonpersons.

The premise of this book is to question our leaders and ask what they are doing.  As we go into the future as a society we need to take appropriate action to ensure that way of life does not end up as a "Big Brother State".

Beyond the Reflection's Edge by Bryan Davis

Just when I thought nothing could top Bryan Davis's "Dragons in Our Midst" and "Oracles of Fire" series, his new "Echoes from the Edge" series comes out to challenge his previous accomplishments.  I have to say that the characters seized my attention and my heart immediately and wouldn't let go!  With a gripping combination of science-fiction, fantasy, action, love (though not the kind you might think), and suspense, this book takes 16-year-old Nathan Shepard and his newly acquired friend, Kelly Clark plowing through their ever complicating assignment to save the world.  Their mission begins with an abiguous murder and takes them crisscrossing through dimensions via violin, an enigmatic camera, and a cryptic mirror.  All the while fleeing a mysterious, yet terrifying villian called Mictar who's malevolent mind is bent on destroying our universe.  I could talk about this book forever, so before I do, one question.  Does anyone else get the impression that Mr. Davis's overall goal is to keep you from putting this book down?!
