Resource Monitoring Goals & Objectives

Natural Resource Monitoring Plan Mission Statement
The effective monitoring of bio-diversity and resource sustainability of Seminole County Natural Lands providing staff with the data needed to make sound judgements towards the management of these lands.

Monitoring Plan Goal
To provide a procedure for the collection, inventory and interpretation of data relevant to the long-term viability of the natural areas managed through the Seminole County Natural Lands Program.

Objectives
To alert land management staff to significant trends in species populations and/or assemblages that may indicate the overall effectiveness of certain management practices employed.

To provide a vehicle for the involvement of the public in the ongoing management of these natural areas.

To foster through hands on education, a sense of stewardship in the young people of the community, so that they feel they share in the long-term viability of this resource.

Reporting Procedures
This Biological Monitoring plan will be reviewed and amended every five years to make any changes that are necessary. All data will be kept on file and in a computer database, where they will be updated biannually. Data will be processed annually to analyze the results of all sampling events. Due to the anticipation of a great deal of data from the monitoring efforts, the data will be organized in the Seminole County government building.

Data Storage
All data will be kept on the original datasheets at the Seminole County Government building. The originals will be copied and each principal investigator will have a copy. None of the original datasheets will be taken into the field once those sheets are stored at the office, this should prevent those sheets from being destroyed. The data after collected in the field will be entered into the computer on a monthly basis. Once data reaches large levels it all will be entered into a database. Initially the data will be stored on spreadsheet format, and then it will be transferred to the database format. Microsoft Excel will be used to store data initially, then the data will be transferred to Microsoft Access 1997.
