Historical Black and White Aerial Photography for Seminole County, Florida
Starting in 1940 with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), then a Department of the US Department of Agriculture, a series of aerial photographs was acquired for Seminole County. These ASCS aerials, originally provided and stored as black and white 9" x 9" contact prints, as well as other paper aerial photos collected over the years by Seminole County's Engineering Office have been scanned and provided digitally in the jpg format. The images are not currently geo-referenced and hence cannot have other GIS data layers overlaid without additional processing.
The scanned imagery includes 1940, 1948, 1957, 1962, 1965, 1968, 1972, 1974, 1980, 1983, 1986,1989, 1991, 1992 and 1993 photography. The hard copies are available for review at the County's Engineering Division. You can view or download some of the aerial photography from the links below.
The Index Maps to the aerial photographs by year may be in several formats depending on available source material :
1. The original scanned paper map, but geo-referenced and rectified. An ESRI GIS data format shape file derived from the above as a polygon feature.
2. The original CAD file of the Index Map. An ESRI GIS data format shape file derived from the above as a polygon feature.
3. The Index Map for the years 1972 to 2002 is common.

Other Digital Aerial Photography: Seminole County GIS has digital aerials from several additional sources available to the public as well. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in conjunction with various State agencies began acquiring and making available to local Governments, quadrangle based Digital Ortho Quarter Quad (DOQQ) imagery in the early 1980s as part of a program to collect nationwide imagery at a common scale for planning and land management purposes. As a result of that program and other efforts, the County has complete, registered and available for use with Geographic Information Systems digital aerial coverage from several different years.
These include 1984 (color infrared (CIR) DOQQs), 1995 (B&W and CIR DOQQs), 1999 (color and B&W acquired under County contract), 2000 (CIR DOQQs), 2002 (Dept. of Transportation B&W), 2003 (Dept. of Revenue color), 2004 (SJRWMD color), 2006 (Dept. of Revenue color), 2008 (Dept. of Revenue color), 2009 (Dept. of Revenue color), and 2012 (Dept. of Revenue color).
Digital aerial photography is available in the Mr.Sid format. Some of the years are downloadable from the links below. For further information contact the Seminole County GIS office at (407) 665 0311
