Posted on: 11/16/2009

Sanford, FL, November 16, 2009-Seminole County's 4-H Horse Program took on the Nation representing the State of Florida at this year's Eastern National 4-H Horse Round up in Louisville, KY. The four-leaf clover proved to be a good luck charm for Seminole County's 4-H Senior Hippology and Horse Bowl Teams. Rachel Roberson and Dana Roberson of Geneva and Kaily Benedict of Oviedo comprised the Hippology Team. Alex Fisk and Jodie Bodeker of Longwood, Anne Elise Creamer of Maitland, and Gabrielle McGee of Cocoa comprised the Horse Bowl Team. This is the first time Seminole County has won the honor of two National Teams.
Hippology tests participants knowledge and understanding of horse science in a friendly but competitive setting. The team demonstrated their experience and knowledge in horse judging, quiz bowl, speeches and practical horse management. Phases of the contest included a written exam, slide identification, judging, visual identifications, evaluations and a team problem. The team earned an 8th overall award in the horse judging phase and a 15th overall team for the contest.
Horse Bowl tests participants knowledge and understanding of horse science in a quiz bowl format. Questions include all areas of the horse industry including; nutrition, reproduction, anatomy and physiology, growth and development, breeds, and riding disciplines. The Horse Bowl Team earned a 22nd overall team award for their contest.
The teams were coached by Laura Klim, a former 4-H'r in Seminole County.
