Softball Tournaments

Sanford, FL - October 30, 2009 - The Seminole County Board of County Commissioners approved funding for the Florida Half Century Senior Softball Organization tournaments at their meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 for $12,364.00. The funding source for this event is the tourism tax, charged by hotels within Seminole County when visitors book a room night.
The tournaments, consisting of teams ranging in ages from 50 to over 75, will take place at fields throughout Seminole County. The first tournament will take place this year, November 21-22. The three additional tournaments will take place in 2010 in January, March and April. Seminole County continues to attract tournaments of all types due to the central location of the County and the location of hotels and restaurants near the playing fields.
The Board of County Commissioners regularly supports sporting events that take place within Seminole County, due to the economic impact of the event. The Florida Half Century Senior Softball Tournament generates anywhere from $150,000 -$200,000 in direct economic impact to the County. On an average, more than 50 teams participate in the event. However, over 60 teams are expected to participate in the 2010 tournaments. Teams from across the state will be participating in these events.
