Faith Based Preparedness Workshop

Posted on: 6/2/2009

SANFORD, FLA. June 2, 2009 -- Seminole County, in cooperation with the Seminole Home-Based Emergency Assistance Response Team (Seminole H.E.A.R.T.), will conduct a faith-based preparedness workshop on Thursday, June 4, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Emergency Operations Center, 150 Bush Boulevard in Sanford.

Faith-based organizations play a critical role during times of disaster. These organizations serve as shelters, community information portals and points of distribution for critical supplies. In addition, church members help the community during the response and recovery phase of a disaster.

The workshop will teach leaders how to develop a robust emergency management plan, integrate their plan into local emergency functions and develop support systems for their congregations. In addition, the leaders will learn how their organization can serve citizens in their community before, during and after a disaster.

This is the second annual program being presented in Seminole County. As Florida's hurricane vulnerable population continues to grow, it is vitally important that all organizations, especially our faith-based community, communicate and coordinate with local officials during times of disaster.
