Debris / Garbage Collection is Operational
Seminole County and Altamonte Springs have resumed garbage collection and recycling operations.
Storm debris such as small branches can be bundled or canned and placed at the curb as yard waste. Large debris can be placed in the right of way, but not in the street and it will be picked up by the County. Downed trees that are on private property are the homeowner's or business owner's responsibility.
There will be a special yard trash collection scheduled for Sunday, August 24 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for City of Sanford residents. The yard trash material will need to be in compliance (bagged, bundled and contained) and placed curbside before 7 a.m. Each bundle needs to be fewer than five feet in length and five inches or fewer in diameter, weighing no more than 50 lbs. Please contact City of Sanford Solid Waste Division at 407.688.5000 Ext. 5420. Emergency Repair Work If you live within a city, check for permit requirements. Citizens with questions may contact Seminole County Building Permitting at 407-665-7050.
When you hire a contractor, IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP COPIES OF ALL PAPERWORK. Do not hire unlicensed contractors. Verify it's a "State Contractors License" and not just an "Occupational License" or "Business Tax Receipt" . Do not give money up front to contractors. To report unlicensed contractors or price gouging, call the Sheriff's Office at 407-665-6650.
The Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) states that any work that requires a permit requires a license. It is a felony to do contractor work without a license. The following was posted on their web site:
Remember, licensed contractors will be proud to show you their license. Beware of construction con artists who ask for payment up front or for cash only. See more tips for protecting your home from unlicensed contractors and how DBPR is protecting victims from unscrupulous and unlicensed contractors. Report unlicensed construction activity to 850-488-6603. Flooding Visit the Building Division for flood information such as flood prone areas, safety measures, and insurance.
Localized flooding is reported in some areas of Seminole County due to the heavy rains from Tropical Storm Fay. Use caution while driving. Avoid standing water. Important Links Important Phone Numbers
