Household Hazardous Waste

We accept HHW during regular business hours!

Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is free of charge for the residential households of Seminole County for many common substances found in the home. HHW items are not picked up at curbside and require special handling and disposal.

HHW is accepted at FREE OF CHARGE at all times during regular business hours at the Central Transfer Station. The Central Transfer Station is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 am - 5:30pm. Residents with large quantities of HHW - Please contact us in advance of delivering your materials to our collection center.

The Household Hazardous Waste Center does not accept waste from businesses.

Anti-Freeze
Paints
Automobile Batteries
Poisons
Compact Fluorescent Lights
Pool Chemicals
Propane Tanks
Fluorescent Light Tubes
Rechargeable Batteries
Gasoline and Cans (Up to 5 gallons)
Solvents
Glues
Insecticides
Thermostats
Lawn Chemicals
Thermometers
Mercury-Containing Devices
Used Oil
  • Used Oil cans also be disposed of at several Drop Off Facilities.
  • Common alkaline batteries are not hazardous and can be disposed of with regular garbage.
  • ALL HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE MUST BE LABELED IF NOT IN ORIGINAL CONTAINERS! This is for the safety of the general public and our employees.

The following are NOT accepted at Seminole County HHW facilities:

Dioxins
Biologically active material
Radioactive Material
Explosives
 
  • Commercially generated Hazardous Waste Assistance can found in the ECAP3 section.
  • Hypodermic needles are accepted through the Sharps Program.

Program Goals

  • Protect public health and the environment by making it easy for residential households to properly dispose of hazardous household products.
  • Minimize the potential of the County's drinking water, groundwater, surface water, environment, and landfill from becoming contaminated due to improper disposal of hazardous wastes.
