Storytime

Moms and babies in storytime.

Library storytime programs prepare your child to read and succeed! Your child will learn and practice pre-reading skills, develop an increased attention span, and nurture a lifelong love of reading! Early literacy skills include: print motivation, phonological awareness, vocabulary, narrative skills, print awareness, and letter knowledge.

Special Needs Storytime Calendar (2017)

Special Needs Storytimes are relaxed and interactive. These programs are designed to increase your child's comfort level with the library environment. Children of all ages and their families are welcome.


Storytime Descriptions & Age Levels:

Bedtime Stories (30 minute program, all ages with adult) – Get ready for bed with stories, music, and activities incorporating early literacy skills.

Chess Club (1 hour program for elementary, middle and high school students) – Play chess with other kids! Practice your strategy and moves. Learn from each other and from teen volunteers. There will be no formal instruction.

Lego Club (for children ages 5 & up) – Calling all Lego Builders! Build your own Lego creation, or collaborate with new friends. Legos provided.

Library Explorers Club (45 minute program for ages 5+) – Explore science, art, and stories. Especially designed for school-age children to imagine, create, discover, and experiment!

Mamá Gansa (30 minute program for children birth to age 3 with adult) – A Spanish immersion Mother Goose on the Loose with interactive songs, rhymes and activities to grow your baby’s early literacy and Spanish language skills.

Mother Goose on the Loose (20 minute program for children birth to 18 months with adult) – Join us for the nationally recognized Mother Goose on the Loose early literacy program. Enjoy interacting with your wee one as you hear stories, learn nursery rhymes and finger plays, sing, move with scarves, and shake bells.

Preschool Storytime (30 minute program for children 3-5 years old with adult) – Join in the fun with stories, songs, puppets and more that encourage development of early literacy skills.

Saturday Soup (30 minute program, geared toward ages 3-7 with adult) – A family story program for children of all ages, featuring books, puppets, music, movement, science activities, and crafts to encourage early literacy skills.

Soundsational Storytime (30 minute program geared toward ages 3-7 with adult)  – Storytime fun for the entire family - books, puppets, crafts, and plenty of MUSIC!

Special Needs Storytime (45 minute program, children of all ages and their families are welcome) – These programs are relaxed and interactive, designed to increase your child's comfort level with the library environment.

Toddler Time (20 minute program for children 18 months to age 3 with adult) – Stories, songs, puppets and finger plays just for toddlers, while introducing Early Literacy concepts for parents and caregivers.

Viva Español (30 minute program for all ages with adult) – Spanish immersion storytime for children, using fun games, songs, stories, and puppets.
