Professional Standards/Training

Training

The Professional Standards/Training section is responsible for the orientation and training of all new recruits, as well as continuing education and training for our more than 500 firefighters. Our mission is to serve the fire service and community by developing and delivering effective training and assessment, with an emphasis on the safety/health of all participants. This is accomplished by delivering fire, EMS, officer, and special operations training through a number of formats. Most of our educational courses, training classes, and multi-company drills are offered to the surrounding cities participating in our First Response agreement, as well as the tri-county and state region, and are FCDICE-approved for continuing education credit at the state level.

Professional Standards/Training is located in a state-of-the-art 20-acre, 44,000 sq ft facility located at 201 Valentine Way in Longwood FL. Opened in 2007, the training facility currently has a 5½-story training tower, pressurized rail car, various hazmat training aids and props, and several confined space training areas. The Training Center is nationally recognized as a Professional Testing Center for the National Testing Network, providing test administration services for the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and FireTEAM test.
