Financial Assistance

Orientation (PDF)

Seminole County Community Assistance will provide an orientation to all customers applying for financial assistance services for rental/mortgage, utility, dental, rental and utility deposits, and training. Orientations are scheduled every Monday and Wednesday with the exception of Seminole County observed holidays that fall on those days. 

   

                              
In observance of Labor Day, this office will be closed Monday, September 1, 2014.  In-House Orientation
will resume on Wednesday, September 3rd.

Office Hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00-5:00 p.m.

          In-House Orientations are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:15 a.m.

Please print and complete the Financial Assistance Application, all applicable additional forms and gather additional information as requested in the application prior to the orientation. If documents are missing or not completed the application process will not be able to be completed at orientation. Screening appointments will be provided to the first 24 applicants attending the orientation that day.

Types of Assistance

PREVENTION ASSISTANCE
Financial Assistance is offered for Rental or Mortgage and/or utility services for qualified clients through the Prevention Assistance Program. Assistance may be provided one-time within a two-year period.  A household must have experienced a financial hardship within the last 6 months and have proof of the ability to sustain and show on-going management.  Interested applicants must attend an Orientation and provide a complete Community Assistance Application with applicable attachments at the time of orientation or complete the on-line orientation and application.
 

DENTAL
Applicants must provide a written referral from a licensed dentist dated within the last 6 months. Assistance is available for fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns, dentures, and partial dentures.  Interested applicants must attend an Orientation and provide a complete Community Assistance Application with applicable attachments at the time of orientation or complete the on-line orientation and application. Assistance is limited to one time within the County's fiscal year (October 1 through September 30). 
 
S.H.I.P. DEPOSIT ASSISTANCE

The Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC) allocates dollars to the County annually for the purpose of helping their residents obtain safe, decent affordable housing that might otherwise be unavailable to them.  Rental Security & Utility Deposit assistance is funded through the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Program to assist low income individuals/families that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless as a result of their inability to pay rental security and/or utility deposits. Interested applicants must attend an Orientation and provide a complete Community Assistance Application with applicable attachments at the time of orientation or complete the on-line orientation and application. Assistance is limited to one time within a 2 year period.
   
CSBG TRAINING PROGRAM
The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Training Program will provide financial assistance in the amount up to $5,000.00 to eligible individuals for training program tuition, books and training supplies. Financial assistance will be provided to individuals that need training in order to attain employment, maintain employment or to increase employment income and/or benefits. Tuition assistance is available to eligible individuals to a school listed on the  CareerSource Central Florida Approved Classes matrix.  Interested applicants must attend an Orientation and provide a complete Community Assistance Application with applicable attachments at the time of orientation or complete the on-line orientation and application.

CREMATION/BURIAL
Financial Cremation/Burial Assistance for indigent individuals passing away in Seminole County. Assistance for Cremation may be provided for those who die and have no insurance, unclaimed and/or are unknown individuals who die in Seminole County. Assistance with Burial may be provided for those that own a plot. Applications will be taken by appointment only.

COMMUNITY SERVICES BLOCK GRANT (CSBG)
The Department of Community Affairs provides CSBG funds to assist eligible low-income households in attaining the skills, knowledge and motivation necessary to achieve self sufficiency. The grant provides a variety of antipoverty services. Seminole County provides a Training program and a Day Camp Scholarship program.  COMMUNITY SERVICES AGENGIES PARTNERSHIP (CSA)
This program is a Board of County Commissioner (BCC) funded initiative for supporting a variety of community service projects. If funds are available, all non-profit agencies serving Seminole County residents are eligible and may apply for funds through this program. The Division of Community Assistance provides training, support, & oversight for all contracted agencies.
