Substance Abuse Prevention
The Division provides a variety of services to Seminole County that are directed at reducing the incidence and consequence of substance abuse and violence.

The Edward Byrne Drug Control and System Improvement Formula Grant Program
This program began in 1988, and was first implemented in Seminole County in 1990. The program is a part of the national drug control efforts

In the early 1990's, Seminole County established a local Drug Abuse Trust Fund that receives funds from two local ordinances. These ordinances provide for fines imposed against substance abuse offenders through the local court system.

Drug Control and System Improvement Formula Grant
Since its inception in 1990, this federally funded program has provided over 1.6 million dollars in grants to public and private agencies in Seminole County to address the incidence of drug abuse and crime. Current projects include both an adult and adolescent domestic violence project, the Sheriff's Police Athletic League program, a Prosecution Alternatives for Youth TEEN COURT program, and computerization projects facilitated by the Seminole County Court Administration and by the State Attorney's Office.

Grants from these trust funds have assisted the preparation of the annual "Drug Abuse Calendar" sponsored for the past three years by the Seminole County Sheriff, the Seminole County State Attorney, and the Red Ribbon Committee. Funds are provide from fees assessed by the court in drug related cases.

This includes participation in committees such as Red Ribbon, the School Safe and Drug Free Community Committee, the local Juvenile Justice Council, the District 7 Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health committee of the Human Services Board and the Tobacco Coalition.
