About Urban Horticulture
The Urban Horticulture program promotes environmentally sound horticulture practices to manage plants in the landscape, gardens, or home. Individual homeowners, homeowner associations/managers and garden centers personnel receive information about sound horticultural practices from our Extension office to give an uniform criteria for dealing with plants in the landscape, garden or home. The adoption of environmentally sound landscape management practices will reduce fertilizer, water, and pesticide use, consequently reducing costs, and labor, while protecting the environment.
The Master Gardener program is designed to train volunteers in basic horticulture principles so that more residents can be helped with their problems with plants in the landscape, garden, or home. The Master Gardener volunteer force of around 40-50 active members help with the work of providing residents with information on horticultural problems by answering questions on the phone, helping in the plant clinic and doing soil tests. Volunteers are a major component of the Urban Horticulture program to promote sound horticultural practices in the community.

Florida Yards and Neighborhoods
Florida Yards & Neighborhoods (FYN) is an environmental educational program of the University of Florida Extension informing homeowners how they can be more environmentally friendly with their landscape practices, helping to protect Florida’s natural environment for future generations.
