WEEKEND MAINTENANCE: The Seminole County Utilities Department is conducting water tank cleaning and maintenance to the Country Club/Northeast Water Treatment Facility over the weekend of May 17-19, 2024. During this time, water utility customers may notice a slight hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg) odor or chlorine odor in their water. Water will remain safe to use and drink.
The odor is due to the shutoff of ozone treatment and use of chlorine treatment during the maintenance work. Without ozone treatment, the water's hydrogen sulfide smell may be more noticeable.
Maintenance is estimated to be complete by Monday, May 20, 2024.

The Seminole County Water Division pumps, treats, and delivers drinking water to almost 39,511 residential and commercial accounts through 592 miles of water mains in unincorporated Seminole County. The six water treatment plants produce a maximum capacity of 46.036 million gallons of water per day. You may occasionally see a Seminole County Employee flushing a fire hydrant. This is a common practice in the water industry; hydrant flushing is necessary to test the hydrants to make sure adequate flow and pressure is available. Flushing is also performed to remove sediment from the pipes in order to maintain water clarity and quality in the distribution pipes. Providing our customers with safe, high quality drinking water is our highest priority. We collect and test about 3200 water samples for bacteria each year as well as numerous samples for other chemical parameters to ensure the safety of your water. Other health and safety features of the water system include addition of fluoride, chlorine for disinfection purposes, ozone treatment (at 3 facilities), and maintaining 3,499 fire hydrants.
